School governance councils (SGCs) are reshaping public school governance in the Philippines by empowering parents, teachers, students, and communities to take part in decision-making. Backed by DepEd policy, nearly half of public secondary schools now have functional SGCs, but challenges remain in ensuring full engagement nationwide. Strengthening these councils is key to building transparent, accountable, and community-driven schools.
